The QMC Foundation helped Sophie Syms, PhD student at Royal Holloway, University of London with a grant to aid her research. The grant made a big difference and Sophie reached out to show how grateful she was…
“I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the QMC Foundation for awarding me a grant inJanuary 2026. Their support came at a particularly challenging time and has enabled me to continue my doctoral research at Royal Holloway, University of London.
My PhD draws together multiple evidential and experiential threads that explore how people connect and engage with heritage sites. It considers how memory shapes the relationships between people and these places over time and space, paying particular attention to the digital and the ways in which social media can illuminate how these sites are perceived and experienced by multiple publics. This research marks a culminative moment in my academic journey that began at QMC.
With the support of the grant, I have now completed a full draft and am preparing to submit my thesis in the coming months.”
