The foundation’s Willis Award for 2025 went to South View School and was put towards an outdoor reading shed. Sheila Pape, Executive headteacher came back to us when she heard about the award to say “a huge thank you for thinking of us when awarding your Willis Award. There certainly is a lot of deprivation within our schools and I know we can use the money to very good effect to help those disadvantaged children, particularly encouraging a love of reading.”
Then once the decision had been made about what to spend the money on, she added “The great thing about this shed is that it is totally dry, so books can be left in it all year round and accessed on any day should a child wish to take advantage. It is positioned off the main playground space in what we call our quiet area. There are benches and astro turf, so the children can sit and read on their own or with friends.”
